Book Review - This is Your Brain on Love by Dr. Earl Henslin
“This is Your Brain On Love” by Dr. Earl Henslin is an interesting primer on how our brain works and responds to the crazy thing we call love. Dr. Henslin starts off simple, talking about the various hormones in our bodies that react to love, and explaining how our brains work. Then he moves into the bulk of the book, 5 types of lovers(since we needed another “5” of love) and how to work with them to be at peace. The finale of the book concludes with character qualities that will make a marriage last, and some appendices about good diet, hormones, and pornography and the brain.
I found this book to be…well…interesting. The topic of all the science is really interesting to me, though it feels like Dr. Henslin puts 90% of his faith in brain imaging technology, and can’t seem to stop talking about how much he loves it. It is interesting to read about our hormones and what makes us tick, as well as understand some basic solutions to relational issues that are common- and when you need to get additional help. It is a book that will remain in my collection for some time, and I think it will even be more applicable when I am married.
